High-Speed Chase in Alexandria Prompts School Lockdowns and Heavy Police Response

Alexandria, LA (10/22/2024) – UrbanCast supporters reported sightings of a high-speed chase that swept through various parts of Alexandria earlier today. The chase was first spotted heading down North Bolton Avenue towards the northern side of the city, followed by reports of it speeding through downtown, particularly along 4th Street. Witnesses saw the chase cross Jackson Street, heading towards Murray, with lights and sirens blaring. Additional sightings placed the chase on 3rd Street, turning onto Broadway near the Food Mart.

When UrbanCast arrived on the scene, a large police presence had taken over the area, encompassing 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Streets. Officers from the Alexandria Police Department (APD), alongside deputies, state troopers, the Alexandria Fire Department, an ambulance company, and a towing service, were actively working in the area.

Initially, APD officers were seen at a house on 7th Street, where they repeatedly called for a suspect or suspects to come out. After receiving no response, officers entered the house but appeared to leave without locating anyone. The officers then moved to 10th Street, where they repeated similar actions, asking for suspects to surrender. As of this update, the situation remains active.

At this time, APD has not issued any public safety warnings, and it remains unclear whether this incident is isolated or connected to other violent crimes in the area.

In response to the chase, Rapides Parish Schools issued a notice to parents and guardians of students at Peabody Montessori, Peabody Magnet High School, and Arthur F. Smith Middle Magnet School. The notice read:

“We are closely monitoring the situation.

Families,

This message is to inform you that our school is currently on lockdown due to a high-speed chase in the area. We are working with local law enforcement and have secured our campuses.

All students and staff are safe. We will communicate timely updates as they become available. Thank you for your patience during this event.”

As of now, the chase and the situation remain under investigation, and UrbanCast will provide updates as more information becomes available.
