Abbeville, La. (10/16/2022) – Shots fired after the Abbeville High School Homecoming Game. Players had just finished shaking hands and were headed to the stands. Then the sounds of at least five shots fired came from behind the stadium. Coaches told the players to lie on the football field, some students laid flat on the track field, and fans ran out of the stands.
The homecoming dance on Saturday was postponed after the Friday night incident. The cancellation announcement was posted on the school’s Facebook page. School officials stated there were too many unknowns:
“Postponement of tonight’s dance is prompted by too many unknowns and the administration’s ability to provide a safe, adequate environment. We want to ensure that the dance is a fitting way to conclude the week after great student participation.”
