ALEXANDRIA, La. (UrbanCast: 7/15/2026) — Family, friends, and the Central Louisiana community will gather later this month to celebrate the life of JaKobey X. Kahey, a young father, son, brother, and friend whose life was tragically cut short by an act of senseless violence.
Miller & Hill Funeral Directors has released JaKobey’s obituary and celebration of life arrangements. The service will honor a 22-year-old remembered not for the tragedy that claimed his life, but for the love, laughter, and joy he brought to those around him.
Born on December 31, 2003, in Alexandria, JaKobey was the son of Vivian X. Kahey, Jr. and Jacqueline Chapman. He graduated from Poteet High School in Mesquite, Texas, with the Class of 2023 before beginning work as a furniture assembler. His family described him as a dependable, hardworking young man who took pride in earning an honest living.
Those who knew JaKobey will remember his infectious personality. He loved making people laugh and could brighten even the most difficult moments with a joke or his playful spirit. His bright smile and sense of humor left a lasting impression on family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He enjoyed basketball, football, and spending time gaming on his PlayStation 5. Above all else, JaKobey treasured his family.
Proudest Role Was Being a Father
His obituary says his proudest role was being a father. His daughter, K’Nairi Kahey, and his son, A’rmoni Kahey, were the center of his world. He embraced fatherhood with love, pride, and unwavering devotion.
JaKobey leaves behind his loving mother, Jacqueline Chapman; his father, Vivian X. Kahey, Jr.; his two children; grandparents; siblings; aunts; uncles; cousins; and countless relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
For many across Central Louisiana, JaKobey’s name became known after he was reported missing on July 5. Thousands of people shared his missing person information, offered prayers, and hoped for his safe return.
That hope turned to heartbreak when the Alexandria Police Department announced investigators recovered human remains believed to be those of JaKobey during a coordinated search in Boyce. Authorities have charged 25-year-old Daviyone Mock of Alexandria and 20-yearold Taylor Jenkins of Killeen, Texas, with second-degree murder in connection with his death. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement has said additional charges or arrests are possible.
While the criminal case will continue through the courts, this moment belongs to JaKobey and those who loved him. His family now prepares to celebrate a life that, although far too brief, left an unforgettable mark on so many people.
Violence Continues to Leave Lasting Scars
Violence continues to leave lasting scars across Alexandria. Every life lost is more than a headline. It is a son, daughter, parent, sibling, or friend whose absence forever changes the lives of those left behind. JaKobey’s death is another painful reminder of the devastating toll that senseless violence takes on families and our community.
Today, our thoughts and prayers remain with JaKobey’s mother, Ms. Jacqueline Chapman, his father, his children, his family, and everyone who loved him. We pray they find strength, comfort, and peace as they celebrate his life and carry forward the memories of a young man whose laughter, love, and devotion to his family will never be forgotten.
Our hearts are also with every family affected by this tragedy. Violence leaves no true winners. It forever changes victims’ families, impacts the families of those accused, and leaves an entire community searching for answers. As Alexandria continues to grapple with violent crime, we pray for healing, accountability, and a future where fewer families endure this kind of unimaginable pain.
