FBI Leads Investigation After Officer-Involved Shooting During Fugitive Operation in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, La. (UrbanCast: 7/13/2026) — Federal and state investigators continue to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday afternoon during an operation to arrest a wanted fugitive near Rutland Road in Alexandria.

Officials released information in stages throughout the evening as the investigation unfolded. Because of the nature of the incident and the need to notify next of kin, authorities provided only limited details. UrbanCast will not speculate beyond what officials have publicly confirmed.

FBI

The first official statement came from the FBI at 6:25 p.m. in response to an UrbanCast media inquiry.

The FBI said agents responded with the Alexandria Police Department, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana State Police. The bureau confirmed it is leading the investigation into an assault on a federal officer. It also said Louisiana State Police is investigating potential violations of state law.

The FBI confirmed the suspect is in custody and said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Because the investigation remains active, the bureau declined to release additional information.

Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office

At 7:44 p.m., the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office released additional details. According to the sheriff’s office, sheriff’s detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force were attempting to arrest a wanted fugitive around 3 p.m. Monday when the officer-involved shooting occurred.

The sheriff’s office said the incident ended after a lengthy standoff. The suspect sustained injuries, was taken into custody, and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The sheriff’s office also confirmed the investigation is being conducted jointly by the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and Louisiana State Police, adding that all future updates will be released by the FBI.

Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office

Later in the evening, the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office posted an image of a United States Marshal badge draped with a black mourning band, along with the Bible verse, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).

That social media post is the first official public indication suggesting a member of the U.S. Marshals Service was killed. However, the post does not explicitly state that a deputy U.S. Marshal died.

As of publication, neither the FBI nor the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office has officially announced a line-of-duty death or released the identity of any officer involved. UrbanCast will continue to report confirmed information as it becomes available and will not speculate while next-of-kin notifications and the investigation continue.
