VERNON PARISH, La. (3/12/2025) – A Florien man was killed in a Vernon Parish crash on Louisiana Highway 28 West near Highway 465.
Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the two-vehicle crash on March 12, 2025, at approximately 10:21 a.m.
According to investigators, 54-year-old Christopher D. Authement was driving a 2017 Hyundai westbound when he rear-ended a 2019 International log truck. The reason for the collision remains under investigation.
Authement was not wearing a seat belt and sustained fatal injuries. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. The log truck’s driver, who was restrained, was not injured. Police collected a toxicology sample for further analysis.
While the cause remains under review, Louisiana State Police emphasize that distracted and inattentive driving are major factors in crashes statewide. They urge motorists to remain alert, as a moment of inattention can be deadly.
Although not every crash is survivable, wearing a seat belt significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries. LSP stress the importance of ensuring all occupants are properly restrained at all times.
