TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UrbanCast: 10/25/2026) — Twelve people were injured Saturday evening when gunfire erupted near Florida A&M University. Six of the victims were juveniles, including an 11-year-old child.
Tallahassee police responded just before 8 p.m. October 24, near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets. The shooting occurred near Bragg Memorial Stadium, hours after Florida A&M University’s homecoming football game.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell confirmed that 11 victims suffered gunshot wounds. A grandmother of one victim sustained injuries while fleeing the scene, bringing the total to 12.
During an overnight news conference, Revell said six victims were adults and six were juveniles. At least three victims suffered serious injuries, including one in critical condition. Police also believe one of the victims is a Florida A&M student.
Within hours of the shooting, Tallahassee Police began providing detailed information to the press and public.
By 11:30 p.m., approximately three and a half hours after the shooting, TPD had issued a detailed public statement. The department confirmed the number of victims, described their injuries, and shared preliminary findings.
Shortly after midnight, Chief Revell held a press conference, addressing reporters and answering questions about the ongoing investigation. He also acknowledged the community’s concerns while emphasizing the importance of sharing accurate information.
The department continued its public updates Sunday morning.
By 8:14 a.m. Sunday, five victims had been released from the hospital, according to TPD. Six others remained hospitalized, including one in critical condition.
Investigators believe a physical altercation between individuals preceded the shooting. Revell said preliminary findings suggest the violence involved two or three individuals and appeared to be an isolated incident.
However, detectives continue working to determine exactly what happened and identify those responsible. No arrests had been announced during the overnight news conference.
As officers arrived, large crowds complicated efforts to reach the injured. Some officers carried victims in their arms, while others used ATVs to move patients toward waiting ambulances.
Revell praised the officers who rushed into the area without knowing whether the danger had ended. He also recognized assistance from Florida A&M University and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting struck especially close to home for Revell, who told reporters he grew up less than two miles away.
“No family should have to experience this kind of violence, this kind of fear, this kind of heartbreak,” Revell said.
Florida A&M University also acknowledged the shooting and assured the community that its campus remained safe.
Meanwhile, the Tallahassee Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit continues collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Authorities encourage anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information to contact Tallahassee Police at 850-891-4200. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
The department plans to release additional information as the investigation progresses.
