LSUA Athletics Breaks Ground on Baseball, Softball, Tennis, & Pickleball Facilities

ALEXANDRIA, La. (UrbanCast: 10/21/2026) – Louisiana State University of Alexandria celebrated the continued growth of Generals Athletics with a ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday, Oct. 20, for new baseball, softball, and tennis facilities designed to enhance the student-athlete experience and expand recreational opportunities on campus.

The project includes a new field house serving LSUA baseball and softball with locker rooms, coaches’ offices, meeting space, and an athletic training room. Construction is already underway.

LSUA is also expanding its tennis complex from four to six courts, giving the university the capacity to host the Red River Athletic Conference Tennis Championships for the first time in program history this spring. Six new pickleball courts will also provide students and community members access to one of the nation’s fastest-growing recreational sports.

“These facilities represent an investment in our student-athletes and in the experience we want to create for everyone who calls LSUA home,” said LSUA Chancellor Elizabeth Beard, Ph.D. “Athletics gives us something to rally around, bringing students, faculty, staff, alumni, and our community together with a shared sense of pride. As LSUA continues to grow, projects like this help us build an even stronger, more vibrant campus while giving our student-athletes the facilities they deserve to compete, learn, and succeed.”

The investment comes as LSUA student-athletes continue to find success both in competition and in the classroom. Baseball, softball, and women’s tennis each advanced to the NAIA National Tournament last season, while LSUA student-athletes posted a 3.31 cumulative GPA.

“The baseball and softball locker rooms were among the first projects we discussed when I arrived at LSUA,” said Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tyler Unsicker. “Reaching this point is a testament to the dedication of our coaches and student-athletes and to the support of a campus administration committed to providing an outstanding student-athlete experience. The additional tennis courts will also give our nationally ranked program the opportunity to host the conference championship this spring and further elevate that experience. I am grateful to Chancellor Beard, our campus leadership, coaches, and student-athletes who have worked to make these projects possible.”

The projects continue a period of investment in LSUA Athletics facilities designed to strengthen its competitive programs and create a more vibrant campus experience. Construction on both the field house and tennis complex is underway.
