ALEXANDRIA, La. (UrbanCast: 9/2/2026) – Alexandria Senior High will attempt to win its fifth Golden Boot Award as Rapides Cancer Center’s Kick Cancer program continues during the 2026 high school football season.
Kick Cancer is a partnership between Rapides Cancer Center and Rapides Parish’s high school football teams to raise money for their own programs and the American Cancer Society.
For every successful field goal ($20) and point after try kick ($10), Rapides Cancer Center makes a donation to the school and an equal donation to the American Cancer Society. In the first four seasons, more than $17,000 has been raised for the American Cancer Society. Last season, ASH edged Tioga, raising $770 to Tioga’s $690. In all, a record $4,460 was donated to the American Cancer Society.
“It’s one of the best things we have going in Central Louisiana, and something that we’re incredibly honored and proud to be a part of,” said ASH football coach Thomas Bachman. “We look forward to another exciting year to see if we can continue to be in the mix for that presentation at the end of the year.”
During the 2025 season, ASH and Tioga were tied after the regular season before the Trojans pulled away in the state playoffs. As the 2026 season begins, both schools have high expectations, and each returns their kicker from 2025 – Eli Fung for ASH, who has committed to play football at the University of Tulsa, and Ethan Bridges of Tioga. Fung and Bridges combined for more than 115 PATs and a dozen field goals in 2025.
Fighting Cancer and Preventing Cancer
“Fighting cancer and preventing cancer is one of the major aims of our annual community benefit plan,” said Charla H. Ducote, Vice President of Public Relations, Marketing and Business Development at Rapides Regional Medical Center. “The impact of cancer on our community cannot be understated. We are proud to partner with our local high school football teams to raise money for the American Cancer Society and to support our local community at the same time.”
Rapides Parish school participating in Kick Cancer for the 2026 season at Alexandria Senior High, Buckeye, Holy Savior Menard, Northwood, Peabody, Pineville and Tioga. The regular season begins Friday, Sept. 4, and playoff games count toward the schools’ total.
