Bunkie Family Dollar Shooting Leads to Arrest of 79-Year-Old Suspect

BUNKIE, La. (3/18/2026) — A Bunkie Family Dollar shooting led to an arrest Saturday morning after a dispute escalated in a store parking lot.

According to the Bunkie Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call at 9:33 a.m. on April 18, 2026. The call reported a shooting at the Family Dollar on NW Main Street.

Officers arrived and learned two men had been involved in a verbal altercation. However, the situation quickly turned violent. Police said the suspect produced a handgun and fired, striking the victim in the leg.

Acadian Ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital. He received treatment and was later released.

Meanwhile, officers immediately took the suspect into custody at the scene. Authorities identified him as Charles Lee, 79, of Bunkie.

Police charged Lee with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, illegal use of weapons, and disturbing the peace.

After the arrest, officers transported Lee to the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center #1.

⚠️ Authorities remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
