Cheneyville Names Jeremy Roberts as New Police Chief After Former Chief’s Arrest

Cheneyville, La. (Sept. 25, 2025) – The Town of Cheneyville has appointed Jeremy Roberts as its new chief of police during a special called meeting on Thursday night. The move comes just two weeks after the arrest of former Chief Charles A. Issac on multiple child sex crime charges.

Mayor Johnny Green, Jr. opened the meeting with a prayer and a message of reassurance, quoting Psalm 16:8:

“I know the Lord is with me always. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.”

Green said the scripture was a reminder that even during trials, the town could rely on faith and unity. He also emphasized the council’s commitment to keeping the best interests of Cheneyville residents as its top priority.

The council then voted unanimously to terminate Issac’s employment and approved the mayor’s recommendation to appoint Roberts, a Rapides Parish law enforcement veteran, as the town’s new police chief. Roberts will serve under a 90-day probationary period.

Community Support and Oath of Office

Jeremy Roberts, who has 12 years of law enforcement experience, was sworn in by retired Judge Davidson, who praised both Roberts’ character and the sacrifice of law enforcement officers:

“If somebody busts in here with a gun, I’m running out the door. They have to run to the gunman. I have nothing but respect for the people who put their lives on the line to save mine. That’s a lot of pressure, and I truly respect those who carry it every day.”

Roberts expressed his gratitude after being sworn in:

“I am grateful, honored, and ready to serve the Town of Cheneyville with commitment, integrity, and heart. My family lives here, and because they are part of this community, I care just as deeply about the well-being of Rapides Parish.”

Roberts is a husband and father of four. He began his career with the Boyce Police Department before joining the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he rose to the rank of patrol sergeant. Over the years, he has earned several awards, including Deputy of the Year and the Golden Shield Award.

In a show of support, former Mayor Johnson and his law firm presented a check for $1,500 to the police department to help purchase new equipment.

A New Chapter After Crisis

The transition in leadership follows the arrest of former Chief Charles Issac, 37. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on Sept. 11, 2025. Issac faces charges of molestation of a juvenile, sexual battery of a victim under 13, and aggravated crimes against nature. State Police confirmed the alleged crimes occurred while Issac was off duty.

Issac’s arrest and removal left Cheneyville in urgent need of stable leadership. Mayor Green and council members said Roberts’ appointment will help restore public trust and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

Looking Ahead

Roberts emphasized his focus on both youth and senior citizens, calling them the “heart of any community.” He pledged to strengthen trust in law enforcement, prioritize public safety, and lead with integrity.

“This is more than where I work. This is where I live. This is who I am,” Roberts told UrbanCast.

With his appointment, town leaders expressed confidence that Cheneyville is moving toward stability after weeks of turmoil.
