WASHINGTON, D.C. (UrbanCast: 7/21/2026) — Congressman Cleo Fields announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Instead, he plans to run for the unexpired term in Louisiana’s 14th State Senate District.
Fields made the announcement in a statement released from his congressional office on July 21.
“After a great deal of prayer and reflection, I have decided not to seek re-election to Congress, in the 6th District or any other district in Louisiana,” Fields said.
He added that he believes his calling is to serve the people closer to home.
“I feel my calling to serve the people is better put to use back home than here in D.C., and I intend to answer that call,” Fields said.
Fields currently represents Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Additionally, he announced plans to hold a news conference at 10 a.m. Friday in Baton Rouge. His office said the location will be announced later. Fields is expected to provide additional details about his decision during the event.
The announcement reshapes Louisiana’s political landscape ahead of the upcoming congressional election. It also opens the race for the 6th Congressional District while Fields pursues a return to the Louisiana Legislature.
