Lake Charles, LA (7/9/2024) – A devastating series of events unfolded this week as the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) responded to a distressing discovery at the Vinton Welcome Center. On July 8, deputies retrieved the body of a four-year-old boy found in the water, prompting a wide-ranging investigation.
The child was last seen on Saturday, accompanied by his mother, 25-year-old Aaliyah N. Jack of Lake Charles, and his one-year-old brother. The recovery operation, led by the CPSO Marine Division, identified the young boy and triggered an urgent law enforcement response to locate his family.
In the subsequent investigation, authorities issued a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) alert for Aaliyah Jack, who was later apprehended by the Meridian Police Department in Mississippi on charges of failure to report a missing child, with a bond set at $300,000 by Judge Tony Fazzio.
The search for the one-year-old brother continued until the morning of July 9, when a passerby reported seeing a baby in a ditch along I-10 eastbound near mile marker 10. Deputies responded and confirmed the child as the missing one-year-old. He was promptly transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Sheriff Stitch Guillory expressed deep sorrow over the events: “This is a tragic incident our detectives are currently investigating. Fortunately, we were able to locate the one-year-old, who is now safe and in the care of authorities. We understand the community’s concern and are committed to ensuring justice for the children involved.”
The CPSO is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the four-year-old’s death and the events leading up to the discoveries. The coroner will determine the cause of death, and detectives are considering further charges as they continue to gather information.
