Unrestrained Pineville Woman Killed in Crash on I-49

Rapides Parish, LA (8/21/2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday, August 20th, claiming the life of a Pineville woman.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on I-49, south of LA Hwy 121. The crash involved a 2018 Buick SUV, driven by 48-year-old Christy N. Johnson, who was not wearing a seat belt.

According to preliminary investigations, Johnson’s Buick was traveling southbound on I-49 in the outside lane. For reasons still under investigation, the Buick collided with a 2019 Chevrolet pickup. The pickup was stopped in the outside lane due to traffic congestion from a prior crash.

The unrestrained Pineville woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Chevrolet, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and also required hospital treatment.

Louisiana State Police remind motorists of the critical importance of wearing seat belts. Proper use of seat belts significantly reduces the risk of injury or death in crashes.

Louisiana law mandates that every vehicle occupant, regardless of seating position, remains buckled up at all times. The crash remains under investigation, and routine toxicology tests are pending.

The Louisiana State Police also stress the dangers of inattentive and distracted driving. Drivers must stay alert and focused on their surroundings to prevent accidents like this one.
