ALEXANDRIA, La. (7/31/2026) — A Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested after investigators alleged he attempted to bring drugs and other contraband into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office said Corrections Security Investigators received information in mid-July alleging Deputy Cedric OBrien Allen Jr., 20, of Alexandria, was bringing prohibited items into Detention Center 1 (DC-1). According to the sheriff’s office, the alleged contraband included tobacco, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, and paper infused with a synthetic spray commonly referred to as K2 paper.
The sheriff’s office said Corrections Security Investigators partnered with the Rapides Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) Unit to investigate the allegations. During the investigation, agents learned Allen allegedly planned to introduce contraband during his scheduled night shift on July 23, 2026.
When Allen arrived for work, investigators searched his belongings. They said they found rolling papers inside his backpack, which are considered contraband in a correctional environment.
Investigators then conducted an open-air sniff around Allen’s vehicle using a RADE narcotics K-9. According to the sheriff’s office, the K-9 gave a positive alert for the odor of narcotics.
Authorities searched the vehicle and reported finding two tightly wrapped black latex gloves containing suspected narcotics. Investigators said that method is commonly used to smuggle contraband into correctional facilities.
Agents later executed a search warrant at Allen’s residence. The sheriff’s office said they recovered marijuana, two rifles, and four sheets of paper believed to be K2 paper.
Allen was arrested without incident and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
Booking records show Cedric OBrien Allen Jr.’s total bond was set at $700,000. The records also indicate he was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on July 27, 2026, at 2:19 p.m., and released at 2:33 p.m., approximately 14 minutes later.
He faces the following charges:
- Malfeasance in Office
- Introducing Contraband into a Penal Facility
- Criminal Conspiracy
- Possession of CDS I (Marijuana) with Intent to Distribute
- Possession of CDS I (Synthetic Analogs) with Intent to Distribute
- Two counts of Illegal Carrying of a Firearm with Drugs
The sheriff’s office said Allen had been employed by the department for approximately three months. Officials also confirmed he was terminated following his arrest.
Investigators said the case remains active, and additional arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
“We hold our deputies to a high standard, and this conduct does not represent the values of the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office or the hard work of the dedicated men and women who serve our community every day,” Sheriff Mark Wood said.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law or administrative action.
