Shreveport, La. (4/19/2036) — A devastating morning unfolded in Shreveport as a domestic shooting left eight children dead across multiple locations, authorities said.
Police responded just after 6:00 a.m. to the 300 block of West 79th Street. Initially, officers treated the call as a shooting. However, investigators quickly determined it involved a domestic situation.
The crime scene expanded rapidly. It now includes two homes on West 79th Street and another residence on Harrison Street. Officials described the area as extensive and complex.
In total, at least 10 people were struck by gunfire. Tragically, eight victims were pronounced dead at the scene. All of the deceased are juveniles, ranging in age from one to approximately 14.
Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene and carried out a carjacking nearby at West 79th and Linwood. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit.
The chase continued into Bossier City. There, Shreveport Police officers discharged their weapons. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.
Louisiana State Police have taken over the officer-involved shooting investigation. Detectives are processing the scene on Brompton Lane and gathering additional evidence.
Authorities believe the suspect acted alone. However, officials have not yet released the suspect’s identity. Some of the children involved are believed to be related to him.
Investigation Continues
As the investigation continues, officials are working to notify families before releasing names and ages of the victims.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux called the incident one of the most tragic events the city has experienced. He said the entire community is grieving alongside the affected families and first responders.
Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn also addressed the scene. He said agencies are working together to process evidence and determine exactly what happened.
Officials are asking the public for patience as the investigation develops. They also urge anyone with information, photos, or video to come forward.
