ALEXANDRIA, La. (9/10/2026) — Multiple gunshots. A heavy police presence. Crime scene tape. Then, shattered glass outside a youth athletic facility the next morning.
What connects those circumstances, if anything, remains unknown.
The Alexandria Police Department responded around 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, to the 3200 block of South MacArthur Drive.
According to APD, officers responded after receiving reports of multiple gunshots fired in the area.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
However, the location of the gunfire has generated significant concern.
The incident unfolded along a heavily traveled commercial stretch of South MacArthur Drive. McDonald’s sits next door to the Chevron gas station in the immediate area. A bingo facility and several other businesses are also nearby.
Police were investigating multiple gunshots in the immediate area. Officers were witnessed canvassing near the youth athletic facility. Shattered glass was visible outside that facility the following morning.
Those circumstances make accurate and timely public information especially important.
Community Seeks Answers
Since UrbanCast first reported the heavy police presence Wednesday night, community members have asked for additional information.
Was anyone targeted? Has a suspect been identified? Has anyone been detained or arrested? Is there any continuing threat to the public?
UrbanCast sought those answers Thursday.
Under the city’s communications process, UrbanCast directed its inquiry to Michael Caffery, seeking information from the Mayor’s Office regarding the incident.
We specifically asked whether anyone was injured. We asked whether authorities identified or took any suspects into custody.
Most importantly, we asked whether there was any continuing threat to the public.
The Mayor’s Office did not respond to UrbanCast’s questions before publication.
That distinction is important.
This is not criticism of Alexandria Police officers responding to or investigating the incident.
Officers responded Wednesday evening. Witnesses saw police actively working and canvassing the area. APD subsequently issued a release confirming the gunfire investigation.
The concern is the flow of public information through the city’s communications process.
When multiple gunshots are reported near restaurants, businesses, a gas station and a youth athletic facility, people reasonably want to know what happened.
Parents need to know whether nearby facilities are safe. Business owners need information about what occurred around their properties.
Residents need to know whether authorities believe a threat remains.
Without timely information, unanswered questions can quickly become rumors. That serves neither law enforcement nor the community.
Investigation Continues
APD said Thursday that the investigation remains ongoing.
No injuries were reported, according to the department.
APD’s release did not announce an arrest or identify a suspect.
