Freeze Watch for Central Louisiana: Protect Plants and Pipes

A freeze watch in Central Louisiana has been issued by the National Weather Service, effective late Friday night through Saturday morning.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30°F are expected across Vernon, Rapides, Avoyelles, Allen, Evangeline, and St. Landry Parishes.

Friday’s high will only reach around 54°F under mostly cloudy skies, with clearing expected by afternoon. Northeasterly winds at 5-10 mph, gusting up to 20 mph, will keep conditions brisk. Tonight, temperatures will dip to around 31°F, with widespread frost developing after 3 a.m.

The freeze watch in Central Louisiana signals potential harm to crops, sensitive plants, and outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to take precautions now. Bring tender plants indoors and insulate exposed pipes to prevent freezing.

Saturday morning will begin with widespread frost before 8 a.m. as temperatures slowly rebound to a high near 58°F under mostly sunny skies. Winds will remain light, offering some relief from the cold start.

Plan for continued chilly nights this weekend, with lows dropping to the low-to-mid 30s through Sunday. Frosty mornings are likely, so keep protective measures in place for vegetation and plumbing.
