MANSURA, La. (UrbanCast: 6/17/2026) — Longtime Avoyelles Parish attorney Wesley Elmer has announced his candidacy for Judge of the 12th Judicial District Court, Division B.
A lifelong resident of Avoyelles Parish, Elmer was born and raised in Mansura. He is the son of the late Richard A. Elmer of Moncla and Priscilla Escude Allums of Mansura. He is also the stepson of the late Harvey “Butch” Allums of Bunkie.
Elmer is the father of two sons, Bo Elmer and Ethan Elmer, both of Mansura. He also has one granddaughter.
Elmer brings more than 30 years of legal experience to the race. He earned his law degree from Louisiana State University and has practiced law throughout Louisiana in both state and federal courts.
He is licensed to practice before all Louisiana state courts and multiple federal courts. During his career, he has represented individuals, families, businesses, and governmental entities in a wide range of legal matters.
His experience includes family law, successions, real estate transactions, contracts, tort claims, civil rights matters, and insurance disputes. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants throughout his legal career.
In addition to private practice, Elmer previously served as attorney for the Town of Mansura and attorney for the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office. In those roles, he provided legal counsel on matters involving local government and public interest issues.
Elmer said his decision to seek the judgeship is rooted in his connection to the community and his commitment to a fair judicial system.
Heard Fairly and Decided Without Bias
“After more than three decades practicing law, I have seen how important it is for people to have confidence that their cases will be heard fairly and decided without bias,” Elmer said.
He said judges must possess legal knowledge, patience, sound judgment, and respect for everyone who enters the courtroom.
“The courtroom is often where people face some of the most difficult moments in their lives,” Elmer said. “They deserve to be heard, treated with dignity, and have confidence that the law is applied equally to everyone.”
According to his campaign, Elmer is seeking election to the 12th Judicial District Court, Division B.
