ALEXANDRIA, La. (UrbanCast: 6/17/2026) — Alexandria Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the Kelly Street shooting Alexandria incident that UrbanCast first reported Wednesday afternoon.
Reports of the shooting began coming in around 12:07 p.m. Wednesday. Information provided to UrbanCast indicated a person had been shot in the chest area on Kelly Street.
A family member confirmed the shooting to UrbanCast and stated the victim was alert but required immediate surgery following the incident.
According to a release from the Alexandria Police Department, officers responded to the 1900 block of Kelly Street on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m. in reference to a shooting.
When officers arrived, they located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said officers were also able to locate the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Devonte Taylor, at the scene.
Attempted Second-Degree Murder
Taylor was arrested and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
The arrest comes less than a day after UrbanCast reported information from family members indicating the victim had been shot and was being prepared for surgery.
The Kelly Street shooting Alexandria investigation remains ongoing.
