Alexandria, La. (UrbanCast: 6/18/2026) — Alexandria residents are learning for the first time about a June 8 drive-by shooting after the City of Alexandria released details through the Alexandria Police Department (APD) while announcing the arrest of a suspect in the case.
According to information released Thursday, Alexandria Police detectives arrested 25-year-old Henry Nelson III on June 17. He has been charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder.
The charges stem from a drive-by shooting that occurred near the intersection of Jones Avenue and University Street on June 8. Police said three individuals were involved in the incident, and one victim suffered minor injuries.
According to the Alexandria Police Department, officers became aware of the shooting at approximately 9:30 p.m. after a victim arrived at a local hospital seeking treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.
Shooting Had Not Previously Been Disclosed
The shooting had not previously been disclosed to the public.
Earlier Thursday, UrbanCast reported Nelson’s arrest after reviewing records available through the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office inmate inquiry system. UrbanCast subsequently requested additional information regarding the case from city officials.
Later Thursday, the City of Alexandria released additional details through the Alexandria Police Department, identifying Nelson as the suspect arrested in connection with the June 8 shooting.
Records from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office show Nelson was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on June 17. Jail records indicate he is being held on three counts of attempted second-degree murder. His total bond has been set at $1.5 million, consisting of three separate $500,000 bonds.
The investigation remains ongoing.
