SIMMESPORT, La. (UrbanCast: 9/1/2026) — Two men have been arrested after a stolen refrigerator investigation led Simmesport police to recover the missing appliance.
The Simmesport Police Department identified the suspects as 40-year-old Jeffery Lee Smith and 67-year-old Dale Daigrepont.
The investigation began on August 15, 2026, around 2 p.m.
An off-duty Simmesport police detective spotted two people pulling a refrigerator on a dolly along Mission Drive. The circumstances caught the detective’s attention.
Therefore, the detective recorded video of the two individuals and the refrigerator.
About two days later, a renter contacted police and reported a refrigerator stolen from a residence.
Investigators then showed the video during their investigation. According to police, the renter identified the individuals shown in the recording.
Detectives said the investigation provided probable cause to arrest Smith and Daigrepont.
Police charged both men with criminal conspiracy and illegal possession of stolen things.
Investigators also obtained a search warrant for the residence of one suspect. Officers executed the warrant and recovered the stolen refrigerator, according to the department.
The Simmesport Police Department said it remains committed to investigating property crimes and pursuing cases when probable cause exists.
The department announced the arrests in a press release.
All persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
