Peabody’s Charles Smith to Be Inducted Into NHSACA National Hall of Fame

ALEXANDRIA, La. (UrbanCast: 6/29/2026) — Legendary Peabody Magnet High School basketball coach Charles Smith is set to receive one of the highest honors in high school athletics. The National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) will induct Smith into its National Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.

The induction ceremony will take place June 30 during the NHSACA National Convention. The event will be held in the Coral Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Conference Center in Coralville, Iowa. This year’s Hall of Fame class includes 39 coaches representing 20 states.

Smith earned the national honor after Louisiana’s high school coaches association selected him for induction. The NHSACA said the recognition reflects his longevity, service to high school athletics, career accomplishments, and contributions to the coaching profession.

The NHSACA is the nation’s oldest coaches association. Coaches founded the organization to support and recognize excellence in high school athletics. Since 1996, it has honored coaches from across the country through its National Hall of Fame.

Smith’s career at Peabody Magnet High School ranks among the nation’s finest. He has led the Warhorses to 10 state basketball championships and more than 1,200 career victories.

However, his impact reaches far beyond wins and championships. Throughout his career, Smith has helped more than 80 student-athletes earn college scholarships. In addition, two former players reached the NBA, while three continued their careers professionally overseas.

His success reflects a commitment to developing young people both on and off the court. Former players often credit Smith for teaching discipline, accountability, leadership, and perseverance.

Fans who want to watch the induction can do so through the official NHSACA livestream hosted by Bound. Viewers simply need to subscribe to the Bound YouTube channel (@boundHQ) and enable notifications to receive an alert when the livestream begins.

Smith’s induction places another national spotlight on Peabody Magnet High School and Central Louisiana. It also celebrates a coaching career that has shaped generations of athletes and left a lasting legacy in high school basketball.
