Update: AMBER Alert Concludes with One Child Found Alive, One Deceased

Jackson, MS (6/13/2024) — In a heartbreaking conclusion to the statewide AMBER Alert, authorities have reported that 4-year-old Erin Brunett was found dead while her sister, 6-year-old Jalie Brunett, was found alive. Daniel Callahan has been arrested in connection with the abduction and homicide.

The U.S. Marshals in Mississippi informed the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office of Callahan’s arrest in Jackson, Mississippi. He was apprehended on Boozier Drive following a chase, according to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade. After his capture, Callahan led authorities to his vehicle, where Jalie Brunett was discovered alive. Subsequently, he directed officers to a wooded area where Erin Brunett’s body was found.

Chief Wade confirmed that Erin Brunett, 4, had been found deceased, while Jalie, 6, was taken to a Jackson hospital for treatment. The exact cause of Erin’s death and the condition of Jalie are yet to be disclosed.

The initial AMBER Alert was issued after the children were abducted from their home at 56044 N. Cooper Road in Loranger, Louisiana, earlier in the day. The alert also followed a domestic violence incident that resulted in a homicide, with Callahan being the primary suspect.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police are continuing their investigation into the incident. Daniel Callahan is expected to face multiple charges in connection with the abduction and homicide.
