Shooting in Southern University Dorm Prompts Lockdown, Victim Hospitalized

BATON ROUGE, La. (3/2/2025) – Southern University Police are investigating a shooting in a Southern University dorm that happened Sunday evening, prompting a campus-wide lockdown and sending one victim to the hospital.

Officials said the shooting occurred around 7 p.m. in Jones Hall. The university immediately issued a lockdown for student safety. By 7:30 p.m., officials alerted students about the situation and advised them to remain in their dorms. Authorities lifted the lockdown shortly after, confirming no ongoing threat.

Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital. The person’s condition remains unknown, and authorities have not confirmed if they are a student.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black hoodie with rhinestones and dark pants. Officials have not confirmed whether the shooter is a student.
