Rapides deputy turns herself in after an altercation with an inmate; she was arrested and fired; bond set at $305,000

Alexandria, LA (6/15/2023) – The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s reported a deputy was arrested and fired on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

At approximately 2:30 am, Deputy Corrections Officers at Rapides Parish Detention Center #1 (downtown) responded to an altercation in a secure dorm between an inmate and another Deputy Corrections Officer.  

The initial investigation revealed an altercation between the deputy, Alaijah Shanell Keller, 21, of Alexandria, and the inmate, which resulted in the deputy producing a sharp instrument to cut the inmate. Keller, as well as the inmate, were both secured by other deputies. No injuries to either party were reported. 

Sheriff’s Detectives responded to begin their investigation. Through that investigation, probable cause was established to obtain arrest warrants on Keller for one count of attempted second-degree murder,  one count of introduction of contraband into a penal facility, and one count of malfeasance in office.

On June 14, 2023, at approximately 7:30 pm, Keller turned herself into RPSO and was placed under arrest and booked on her charges. Keller’s bond was set at $305,000.00; she was released at 12:46 on Thursday, June 15, 2023.

Sheriff’s Detectives say their investigation is still ongoing.
