NATCHITOCHES, La. — Natchitoches police have arrested a suspect in a January homicide that began as a shooting call and ended with a victim airlifted out of the parish.
Timothy Thomas, 27, of Natchitoches now faces a charge of second degree murder. Officers booked him into the LaSalle Corrections Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
The case started the night of January 11, 2026. Officers responded around 8:08 p.m. to the 1400 block of Theophile Alley after reports of a shooting. They arrived to find Demetrick Kennedy, 46, of Baton Rouge suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered aid on the scene while additional first responders rushed to the area. Medics transported Kennedy to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. His condition was critical, and he was airlifted to a hospital in Caddo Parish for further treatment.
Kennedy did not survive. Hospital officials notified Natchitoches investigators on January 13 that he had died from his injuries. Detectives reclassified the case as a homicide.
Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division and the Violent Crime Task Force worked the scene, collecting evidence sent to a crime lab for forensic analysis. The investigation continued for nearly five months before leading to Thomas’s arrest.
