SIMMESPORT, La. (1/3/2025) – A homicide on Kermit Street in Simmesport has left 23-year-old James Campbell Jr. dead and another man injured.
On Thursday, January 2, 2025, at approximately 9:02 PM, the Avoyelles 911 Communication Center received a report of a shooting on Kermit Street in Simmesport, LA. Responding first responders discovered two victims. Campbell, a resident of Simmesport, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second man was injured and transported to a hospital for treatment.
At the request of the Simmesport Police Department, the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) will lead the investigation into this tragic incident. A source on scene described the shooting as a drive-by, adding to growing concerns about gun violence in the area.
A family member commented on UrbanCast’s initial coverage of the tragedy, stating, “My nephew didn’t bother no one. He was a wonderful child, a child of God, and was taken from us with this senseless gun violence.”
The body of James Campbell Jr. will be sent for an autopsy as part of the investigation. The APSO is working closely with the Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office to uncover more details about the shooting.
