TYLER, Tx. (UrbanCast: 9/28/2026) — Four people died early Sunday after a police pursuit connected to a reported shooting in Tyler, Texas.
Tyler Police officers responded around 3:43 a.m. September 27 to the 1500 block of Lake Placid Road. The initial caller reported hearing gunfire and seeing people shooting.
The caller also described a possible suspect vehicle as a 2009 Nissan coupe.
Around 4 a.m., a local hospital contacted Tyler Police about two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said those victims were connected to the Lake Placid Road incident.
As officers investigated, they spotted a vehicle matching the description provided to police. Officers attempted to make contact, but the vehicle drove away.
Police then began a pursuit through Tyler. The Nissan eventually traveled onto Highway 31 East at a high rate of speed.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers joined the pursuit after it left the city.
According to Tyler Police, DPS troopers used a PIT maneuver to end what authorities described as a dangerous, high-speed pursuit.
Three occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the crash scene. A fourth occupant was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released the identities of the four people. Officials are withholding their names until relatives receive notification.
Police also have not released additional information about the conditions of the two people who suffered gunshot wounds.
The shooting and subsequent pursuit remain under investigation.
Tyler Police investigators are investigating the original incident. Texas DPS accident investigators and the Texas Rangers are also involved.
Authorities have not announced additional details about what led to the shooting or the circumstances surrounding the pursuit.
