Alexandria, LA (11/22/2024) – A Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy involved shooting on Thursday evening in the 6400 block of Masonic Drive left a deputy and a suspect injured.
Deputies responded at approximately 7 PM to a disturbance between a patient and employees at the facility.
Upon arrival, deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, the patient began fighting with the deputies. During the physical altercation, the patient disarmed one deputy and shot them in the upper thigh. In response, the second deputy returned fire, striking the patient in the torso.
Medical aid was promptly provided to both the injured deputy and the patient. Facility employees assisted with initial care. The Alexandria Police Department transported the injured deputy to a local hospital, where they were treated and later released. The suspect was taken to the hospital by Acadian Ambulance and remains hospitalized.
The Central Louisiana Critical Incident Response Team is conducting the investigation. Certified investigators from the Grant Parish, Beauregard Parish, and Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Offices are leading the inquiry, with support from Rapides Parish detectives.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities plan to release additional details as they become available. Officials expressed gratitude to the Alexandria Police Department, Alexandria Fire Department, and Louisiana State Police for their assistance during this critical incident.
