Alexandria, LA (September 17, 2024) — The Alexandria Police Department (APD) arrested 34-year-old Carnell Nelson, wanted in connection with the August 31, 2024, shooting at 13th and Elliott Streets, following a traffic stop on Monday, September 16, 2024. According to APD the arrest occurred around 2:00 PM in the 600 block of MacArthur Drive.
Nelson, listed as an Alexandria resident in the Rapides Parish Inmate Inquiry System, had an active warrant for one count of attempted second-degree murder. His bond is currently set at $1,000,000.
The Alexandria Police Department had previously issued a call for the public’s assistance in locating Nelson on Friday, September 13, 2024. At the time, authorities disclosed that Nelson was wanted for attempted second-degree murder but did not immediately confirm his connection to the Elliott Street shooting.
UrbanCast reported that a significant police presence was observed on North MacArthur Drive near McDonald’s and Sutherlands’ around 1:30 PM on Monday. Officers surrounded a vehicle with weapons drawn. The driver, identified as Nelson, complied with police instructions, exited the vehicle, and was taken into custody without incident.
