Los Angeles, CA (1/9/2023) – Tonight, the college football season reaches its pinnacle as defending National Champion Georgia Bulldogs face off against the newbie to the playoff, TCU Horned Frogs.
Georgia is undefeated after barely escaping in the semifinals against an up-to-the-task Ohio State team, 42-41.
TCU dominated Michigan for most of the Fiesta Bowl and won 51-45.
Georgia was expected by most to be back in the mix to repeat. With Stetson Bennett as QB and the potential #1 NFL draft pick, Jalen Carter is leading the defense.
TCU was not even expected to compete in their conference. With a new head coach in Sonny Dykes starting his first year, most pundits predicted a 6-7 win season. The Horned Frogs, led on offense by a gritty Max Duggan and the defense led by Alexandria’s own Bud Clark, had other ideas.
In fact, TCU was a 200-1 long shot at winning the title before the season began.
Tonight’s game continues the SEC streak of having a team in the championship game since the playoff began in 2014.
This is Georgia’s 4th National Championship game and the first for TCU. It is also the first time the Big 12 will have its champion competing in the Playoff championship since it went to the current format.
Georgia is a 12.5-point favorite.
