Hineston Man Dies in Rapides Parish Crash

Hineston, La. (UrbanCast: 9/5/2026) – A 24-year-old Hineston man died early Saturday following a single-vehicle crash in Rapides Parish.

Louisiana State Police identified the driver as Kalob Bennett.

Troopers responded around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, September 5. The crash happened on Louisiana Highway 488 at Valentine Lake Road.

Investigators said Bennett was driving a 2001 Toyota Tundra east on Highway 488.

For reasons still under investigation, the truck left the roadway and entered a ditch. The vehicle then overturned and struck a tree.

Bennett was not wearing a seat belt, according to State Police. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators collected routine toxicology samples for analysis. State Police said impairment is suspected as a factor. However, the investigation remains ongoing.

State Police reminded motorists that alcohol, prescription medications and other drugs can affect driving ability. Those substances can reduce reaction time and impair motor skills.

Troopers encourage motorists to plan ahead and designate a sober driver when necessary.

UrbanCast extends our condolences to Bennett’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
