Simmesport Police Arrest Man on Elder Cruelty Charge Following Abuse Investigation

SIMMESPORT, La. (UrbanCast: 7/15/2026) — The Simmesport Police Department has arrested a man on an elder cruelty charge following an investigation into abuse allegations.

According to the department, detectives opened the investigation after receiving information from a tipster. As the investigation progressed, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Ronald Bennett.

Officers arrested Bennett on a charge of Cruelty to the Elderly and Infirm. They then transported him to the Avoyelles Parish Jail in Marksville for booking. Authorities also placed a state parole detainer on Bennett.

The investigation remains active. Consequently, detectives are asking anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Simmesport Police Department at (318) 941-2576. Officials said information from the public could assist investigators as the case moves forward.

Chief Damion Jacobs said the department remains committed to protecting vulnerable residents and thoroughly investigating allegations involving the abuse or neglect of elderly and infirm individuals.

Authorities emphasized that an arrest is not a conviction. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
