Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Hanson Fatally Wounded During Alexandria Fugitive Operation; Federal Murder Charge Filed

ALEXANDRIA, La. (UrbanCast: 7/14/2026) — Federal authorities have identified the law enforcement officer fatally wounded during Monday’s fugitive operation in Alexandria as Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Hanson.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana announced that Clarence A. Frazier Jr., 48, of Alexandria, has been charged by federal criminal complaint with the murder of Deputy Hanson.

The announcement answers many questions that remained Monday as officials released information in stages while next-of-kin notifications were underway. The FBI initially confirmed it was investigating an assault on a federal officer before the U.S. Marshals Service later identified the fallen deputy as Drew Hanson.

According to federal prosecutors, Frazier was wanted after failing to appear for trial on a state charge of sexual battery of a person with infirmities.

According to court documents, investigators with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Servicelocated Frazier at his residence, obtained a search warrant, and then attempted to execute the arrest warrant.

Court Documents

Court documents state that officers, clearly identified as law enforcement, announced their presence before forcing entry into the residence.

According to the criminal complaint, officers located Frazier inside a bedroom where he allegedly barricaded himself and opened fire, striking Deputy Hanson.

Deputy Hanson later succumbed to his injuries.

The complaint alleges Frazier remained barricaded inside the residence during a lengthy standoff before law enforcement took him into custody.

The FBI is leading the investigation with assistance from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

If convicted, Frazier faces life imprisonment or the death penalty, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche praised Hanson’s courage and service.

“Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Hanson embodied courage and dedication. Drew paid the ultimate price while protecting our communities. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta said Deputy Hanson’s death is a loss felt throughout the nation.

“When a Deputy U.S. Marshal is killed in the line of duty serving an arrest warrant on a violent fugitive, this agency and, indeed, the entire country mourn that loss.”

U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller described Hanson as “a father, a husband, a son, and a child of God,” adding that the Western District community is mourning a tremendous loss.

Offered Condolences

FBI Director Kash Patel also offered condolences.

“The FBI offers our deepest condolences to the family of Deputy U.S. Marshal Hanson. We will commit our full force of resources to ensure the individual responsible is brought to justice.”

Earlier Tuesday, the U.S. Marshals Service officially confirmed that Deputy Hanson was fatally wounded while serving an arrest warrant in Alexandria. The agency said the operation involved the U.S. Marshals Service, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and the Alexandria Police Department. Officials also confirmed the suspect is in custody.

Louisiana State Representative Ed Larvadain III expressed his condolences.

“I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family and co-workers of the officer that was killed in the line of duty while trying to catch a wanted fugitive.”

Rapides Parish Sheriff Mark Wood also honored Deputy Hanson in a public prayer.

“We have lost a hero who once walked among us… Please welcome him into heaven with open arms.”

The investigation remains active.

A federal criminal complaint is an allegation. Clarence A. Frazier Jr. is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

UrbanCast extends its deepest condolences to the family of Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Hanson, the United States Marshals Service, and every member of the law enforcement community affected by this tragic loss. We also ask our community to continue praying for all first responders and their families as they navigate this difficult time.
