ALEXANDRIA, La. (UrbanCast: 6/15/2026) — Alexandria Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the June 8 homicide that occurred in the 2400 block of Cummins Street.
According to a news release issued Monday morning, investigators arrested 29-year-old Taylor Weatherspoon on June 14. Authorities charged Weatherspoon with one count of Second-Degree Murder in the death of 35-year-old Marlow Trottie.
The Alexandria Police Department also thanked the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for assisting with the investigation.
Police have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding Trottie’s death. However, investigators stated that the case remains active and ongoing.
The arrest marks the first major development since officers responded to the 2400 block of Cummins Street shortly after 7:30 a.m. on June 8. Authorities later identified the victim as Marlow Trottie and ruled the death a homicide.
At the time, police had not announced any arrests or identified a suspect. As a result, many residents contacted UrbanCast seeking information about the incident and whether there was an ongoing threat to public safety.
The homicide occurred near Alexandria City Park, CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, medical offices, and several businesses. Throughout the day, residents reported seeing a large law enforcement presence while traveling through the area.
Widespread Concern
Despite widespread concern, basic public safety information remained limited for several hours after the scene was secured. UrbanCast submitted a request for information shortly after reports of the incident began circulating. Several hours later, police confirmed the victim’s identity and announced that investigators had classified the case as a homicide.
Public records reviewed by UrbanCast now provide additional context to the timeline.
According to Rapides Parish inmate records, Weatherspoon was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on June 8 at approximately 3:21 p.m. Jail records indicate he was initially booked as a parole violator. The inmate record further shows that the second-degree murder charge was added on June 14.
The booking record indicates Weatherspoon was already in custody during much of the week while residents questioned whether a homicide suspect remained at large.
The records do not indicate when investigators developed Weatherspoon as a suspect or when sufficient evidence existed to support a murder charge. However, the timeline raises questions regarding what information authorities knew during the early stages of the investigation and whether additional information could have been shared to address public concerns.
Residents Expressed Frustration
Many residents expressed frustration during the week because they were unable to determine whether the homicide was an isolated incident or whether a potential suspect remained in the community.
Monday’s announcement provides the first public confirmation that investigators had identified and charged a suspect in the case.
