May 20, 2026 – Acadian Ambulance recognized two Central Louisiana employees for their dedication to emergency medical services during its annual Medics of the Year program.
The company honored Paramedic Don Martin and EMT Shelly Craigen as finalists representing Acadian’s Central Louisiana service area. Acadian Ambulance will celebrate its regional honorees and top company-wide winners on May 19 in Lafayette.
Each year, Acadian Ambulance recognizes EMS professionals across its four-state service area for outstanding patient care, leadership, and commitment. This year, 33 finalists earned nominations from coworkers for their work ethic and service.
Acadian Ambulance has served Central Louisiana since 1990, beginning in Avoyelles Parish. Today, the company employs more than 200 people across Avoyelles, Grant, Vernon, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, Concordia, and Sabine parishes.
Don Martin, Paramedic
Don Martin, a paramedic based in Beauregard Parish, joined Acadian Ambulance in 2011. He currently serves as a Senior Field Training Officer and Assistant Quality Improvement Coordinator.
Coworkers praised Martin for his leadership, positive attitude, and dedication to mentoring new EMS professionals. They also credited him for investing personal time into helping employees and students succeed in their careers.
In addition, Martin consistently meets his responsibilities with professionalism and high standards. His peers described him as a strong mentor who reflects Acadian’s culture each day.
Shell Craigen, EMT
Shelly Craigen, an EMT based in Beauregard Parish, also received recognition from coworkers for her leadership and teamwork.
Colleagues described Craigen as patient, kind, and dependable. They said she consistently supports both patients and coworkers while maintaining a positive attitude.
Coworkers also noted her willingness to assist with station duties, training, and daily operations. In addition, they praised her leadership as a Field Training Officer and her commitment to representing the company professionally.
Craigen graduated from Acadian’s National EMS Academy.
Acadian Ambulance encouraged community members interested in EMS careers to explore training opportunities through the National EMS Academy. The next EMT class in Thibodaux begins June 1.
