ALEXANDRIA, La. (5/11/2026) — The Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed Monday morning that 4-year-old Londan Austin died following a gunshot wound sustained during a tragic incident in Alexandria.
A representative with the Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office told UrbanCast that Londan died late Sunday evening, May 9, 2026, at Christus Cabrini Emergency Room.
The representative stated that the case remains under investigation and that an autopsy is pending.
The Londan Austin shooting death has deeply impacted the Alexandria community. Meanwhile, family members and residents continue expressing grief across social media.
Londan was a Pre-K student at Alma Redwine Elementary School. News of his death quickly spread throughout the school community and across Central Louisiana.

UrbanCast previously reported that Alexandria Police responded to a local hospital around 10:48 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a child suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigators later determined the shooting happened in the 3000 block of Houston Street following a birthday party.
According to police, two four-year-old children were inside a residence and playing unsupervised with a stolen firearm that was illegally possessed. During the incident, the gun discharged, fatally wounding Londan.
Authorities continue investigating the case. Additionally, police said charges remain pending.
Alexandria Police Chief Chad Gremillion called the incident preventable. He also urged gun owners to properly secure firearms around children.
“A child has lost their life in a preventable tragedy,” Gremillion stated previously. “This heartbreaking incident serves as a devastating reminder of the importance of properly securing firearms.”
The Alexandria Police Department continues working alongside the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services during the investigation.
