CONCORDIA PARISH, La. (5/11/2026) — A Concordia Parish crash early Sunday morning claimed the lives of two young people, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the single-vehicle crash around 12:37 a.m. Sunday at 518 Minorca Road.
Investigators said a 2001 Infiniti QX4 was traveling northbound when the driver lost control for reasons still under investigation. The SUV then left the roadway and overturned.
Authorities identified the victims as 17-year-old Michelle Baity of Natchez, Mississippi, and 19-year-old Jacob Bonnette of Vidalia. Both died at the scene.
State Police said neither victim was wearing a seatbelt.
Troopers identified the driver as 18-year-old Gregory Steele of Vidalia. Steele suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, another passenger sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
According to investigators, none of the occupants were restrained.
As the investigation continued, troopers said impairment is suspected in the Concordia Parish crash. Toxicology samples were collected for analysis.
Troopers later arrested Steele on two counts of vehicular homicide. He also faces charges of underage driving while intoxicated, vehicular negligent injuring, and careless operation.
Authorities booked Steele into the Concordia Parish Detention Center. The investigation remains active.
State Police reminded motorists that alcohol and drugs can impair judgment, reaction time, and driving ability. Officials also encouraged drivers to designate a sober driver before getting behind the wheel.
