ASH student Collin LaCaze remembered as community mourns after fatal hit-and-run

ALEXANDRIA, La. (4/6/2026) — The community continues to mourn Collin LaCaze Alexandria hit-and-run, as family and friends prepare to honor his life.

Collin Michael LaCaze, 16, was known for his energy, discipline, and heart for others. He was a junior at Alexandria Senior High School and carried a 4.2 GPA. He stayed active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

On the field, Collin played baseball with passion and purpose. He helped lead teams to World Series titles at ages 5 and 13. Teammates say he brought intensity and encouragement every day.

He also showed drive beyond school. Collin started a car wash business and took pride in his work. He gave back through volunteer efforts and looked for ways to help others.

He enjoyed fishing and time outdoors. He valued family, friendships, and the moments that brought people together.

Visitation will take place Monday, April 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Laborde Earles Coliseum. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. as loved ones gather in prayer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Tuesday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church. Burial will take place later that afternoon in Natchitoches.

Tragic Incident

This loss traces back to a tragic incident that shook the city.

On March 31, at around 11:11 a.m., Collin and another teen stood on the shoulder of Eddie Williams Avenue. A vehicle traveling southbound struck both teens and left the scene.

Both victims were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Collin later died from those injuries.

Police worked quickly and identified a suspect within hours. Officers arrested 45-year-old Julius Layfield. He now faces charges of vehicular homicide, negligent injury, and hit and run.

Investigators say the case involves a suspected impaired driver. The investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities continue to ask for information from the public.

This tragedy has left a lasting impact. It also highlights the serious consequences of impaired and reckless driving.
