LSUA Hosts 32nd Annual Black History Month Program Honoring Legacy and Leadership

Alexandria, La. (2/6/2026) — LSUA hosted its 32nd Annual Black History Month Program and Luncheon, bringing students, faculty, and community leaders together. The event highlighted history, culture, and continued progress through education and public service.

The program opened with music and welcoming remarks from LSUA Chancellor Dr. Paul Coreil. Pastor Frank J. Jackson delivered the invocation, setting a reflective tone for the ceremony. Peabody Magnet High School JROTC presented the colors, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Student Government President Sophia Scully.

Musical selections throughout the program were performed by The Anointed Sound Ensemble. Their performances provided both inspiration and reflection during key moments of the ceremony.

LSUA leaders shared updates on campus growth and student engagement. Natalee LeBlanc presented an LSUA snapshot, emphasizing recruitment and opportunity. Akvia Jackson, Vice President of the Black Student Union, delivered special remarks highlighting student involvement and cultural awareness.

The program’s keynote speaker was Judge Monique Rauls, Chief Judge of the Ninth Judicial District Court. Judge Rauls shared her personal journey and professional experiences, emphasizing perseverance, service, and justice. She spoke about breaking barriers and the importance of community leadership.

Judge Rauls has served in multiple public service roles across Louisiana. She continues to advocate for youth, families, and equitable access to justice. Her message encouraged everyone to lead with purpose and integrity.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Connie Cooper, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Civil Rights and Title IX. She thanked sponsors and partners for their continued support of educational and cultural initiatives.

LSUA Foundation President Kelly Pepper also addressed the audience. She emphasized the importance of investing in students and honoring shared history through continued engagement.

The annual program remains a cornerstone event for the university. It reflects LSUA’s commitment to inclusion, education, and community connection.
