One nearby resident told UrbanCast they heard what sounded like an exchange of gunfire and saw people transported from the area by ambulance.

Another resident described hearing approximately 30 seconds of sustained gunfire that appeared to involve different-caliber weapons.

UrbanCast could not independently verify those descriptions and clearly identified the information as unconfirmed while awaiting official information from authorities.

Alexandria Police later confirmed that Battles died following the shooting.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed whether anyone else was injured during the incident.
