Alexandria, La. (11/30/2025) – A fatal I-49 crash in Alexandria early Sunday left one woman dead, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
Police say officers responded around 4:29 a.m. to a three-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 49 during heavy rain. The wreck happened near a guardrail after an SUV left the roadway.
Investigators say a red GMC Acadia, driven by 28-year-old Danielle Jones, was heading south when it left the roadway and hit a guardrail. The impact disabled the Acadia and left it stopped in the middle of the travel lanes.
Moments later, two more southbound vehicles hit the disabled SUV. Police say heavy rainfall and very low visibility contributed to the secondary collision.
Jones suffered critical injuries in the crash. First responders took her to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Alexandria Police say the fatal I-49 crash in Alexandria remains an active and ongoing investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to Danielle’s friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
