MOREAUVILLE, LA (5/7/2025) – Avoyelles Parish train derailment update: Louisiana State Police confirm LA 1 remains closed as crews continue response efforts.
The derailment near Moreauville involved approximately 30 Kansas City Southern Railroad (KCS) railcars. Propylene and ethylene glycol were identified as the commodities.
Early reports prompted evacuation orders in the area due to possible hazardous materials. Most evacuation orders are now lifted except at the derailment site.
Air monitoring continues. No hazardous material release has been detected at this time. Authorities report no injuries related to the derailment.
Louisiana State Police Troop E is assisting the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office and KCS in managing the response. Multiple agencies remain on scene.
LA Hwy 1 remains closed. Motorists should use LA Hwy 114 to LA Hwy 451 as a detour and expect delays.
Sacred Heart and Avoyelles High Schools were closed earlier today due to the incident.
Crews are working quickly but safely to clear the site and restore normal conditions.
