Stabbing Incident on Elliott Street Leads to Arrest After Brief Standoff; Four APD Officers Injured

Alexandria, LA (5/21/2024) — On Monday, May 20, 2024, at approximately 4:30 PM, the Alexandria Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing in the 1700 block of Elliott Street. Officers arrived at the scene to find the victim, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Michael Jarrell of Alexandria, briefly barricaded himself inside a residence on Elliott Street. Following a brief standoff, Jarrell was taken into custody. During his apprehension, four Alexandria Police Officers sustained minor injuries.

Jarrell faces multiple charges, including one count of Aggravated Second Degree Battery, one count of Disturbing the Peace, one count of Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence, and two counts of Battery on a Police Officer.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Alexandria Police Department is seeking any additional information from the public.
