Alexandria, LA (March 12, 2024) – The Sickle Cell Anemia Resource Foundation (SCARF) is gearing up for its 2nd Annual Rosia Walk & Health Fair, dedicated to honoring its founder, Rosia G. Metoyer, and all sickle cell warriors.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Frank O Hunter Park, located at 2399 Willow Glen Rd, Alexandria, LA 71302.
Registration is required for participation, with fees set at $25 for adults and $15 for children. Each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt as part of their registration.
Shay Hardison, executive director for SCARF, expressed the significance of the event, stating, “Through this event, we hope to bring awareness to sickle cell disease and honor our founder. To know that SCARF has been serving individuals in our community living with sickle cell disease for 50 years because of Mrs. Rosia is amazing.”
Hardison continued, “SCARF is dedicated to re-engaging with the community after working through the pandemic and being unable to do what we needed. We look forward to seeing everyone out on Saturday and getting involved with the organization. We have some exciting things coming this year and next year as we celebrate 50 years of serving our Sickle Cell Warriors.”
Following the 2k walk route, participants will have the opportunity to visit various vendors on-site, receive free sickle cell trait testing provided by the LSUA Department of Allied Health, enjoy music, fellowship, and more.
The event promises to be a meaningful gathering, bringing together the community to support individuals living with sickle cell disease and commemorate the legacy of Rosia G. Metoyer.
