LCU Freshman Awarded Clarence & Rosa Fields’ Scholarship

Pineville, LA (March 13, 2024) – Journi Singleton, a freshman at Louisiana Christian University (LCU), has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Clarence and Rosa Fields Emerging Black Leader Scholarship for the year 2024.

The scholarship, which covers full tuition, room, and board, is awarded to an outstanding Black student who demonstrates academic excellence, Christian leadership, and promising potential for the future. Singleton, a history major hailing from Sulphur, has been recognized for her exceptional achievements both in academics and athletics. As a member of the women’s basketball team, she maintains an impressive 3.79 GPA and has earned a place on the Dean’s List.

Expressing her gratitude for receiving the scholarship, Singleton remarked, “I am honored and very grateful to be the recipient of the Clarence and Rosa Fields Emerging Black Leader Scholarship. This scholarship embodies academic excellence, Christian values, and leadership qualities, all of which I greatly aspire to possess.”

Prior to her enrollment at LCU, Singleton graduated as valedictorian from Hamilton Christian School in Lake Charles, where she actively participated in various extracurricular activities including serving as Beta Club president and Student Council treasurer, alongside her achievements on the basketball court.

LCU President Dr. Rick Brewer praised Singleton’s accomplishments, stating, “Ms. Journie Singleton has distinguished herself as a scholar-athlete at LCU. Her leadership potential and promise have no limit moving forward into the future. Indeed, she is emblematic of the servant leadership Clarence and Rosa Fields provided CENLA over the past three decades.”

Clarence Fields, who served as the mayor of Pineville for 22 years, and his wife Rosa, a respected business leader and insurance agent in Central Louisiana, established the scholarship to support promising young leaders like Singleton.

The Clarence and Rosa Fields Emerging Black Leader Scholarship is awarded annually, with the application process taking place in February for the following academic year. Students interested in this and other scholarship opportunities can find more information on the LCU scholarship webpage.
