Controlled Burns Conducted in Natchitoches Parish

Natchitoches, LA (1/20/2024) – Today, the US Forest Service in collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will be overseeing controlled burns in various areas of Natchitoches Parish.

These controlled burns are scheduled to take place to manage forest health and reduce the risk of wildfires in the region.

The following areas are designated for controlled burns:

  1. 1276 Acres Near Kisatchie: A controlled burn will cover an area of 1276 acres located near LA Hwy 117 and Forest Service #350 in the vicinity of Kisatchie.
  2. 1084 Acres Near Taylor Road: Another controlled burn will encompass 1084 acres along La. Hwy 117 near Taylor Road, stretching from south of Kisatchie to the Natchitoches-Vernon Parish line.
  3. 150 Acres in Goldonna: A third controlled burn will be conducted over an area of 150 acres situated around North Goodwill Road in Goldonna.

These controlled burns are expected to continue until approximately 3:00 PM local time. Residents in these areas may observe smoke as a result of the burns, and there is a possibility that smoke may drift into adjoining parishes.

The purpose of these controlled burns is to enhance forest management practices, improve wildlife habitat, and reduce the accumulation of flammable vegetation, thereby minimizing the risk of uncontrolled wildfires. The US Forest Service and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry urge residents to exercise caution and remain vigilant during these operations.

For further information and updates regarding this controlled burn, residents are encouraged to contact the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office at (318) 357-7801, their local forestry office or visit the official websites of the US Forest Service and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
