Upcoming GAEDA Meeting Raises Concerns Over Lack of Transparency and Conflict of Interest

Alexandria, LA (April 24, 2024) — The Greater Alexandria Economic Development Authority (GAEDA) is set to hold a special called meeting called by Greg Upton, new appointee to the commission by Councilman Lee Rubin on Thursday, April 25, 2024, sparking growing concerns within the community over transparency and alleged potential conflicts of interest.

Of particular concern is the agenda item regarding the termination of the General Counsel Engagement Agreement with The Law Office of Tiffany N. Sanders. This decision has raised eyebrows, especially considering recent commissioner appointments aligned with specific council members. Mr. John Callis, appointed by Councilwoman Lizzie Felter, and Mr. Greg Upton, appointed by Councilman Lee Rubin.

Citizens are alarmed by what they perceive as a lack of transparency in the decision-making process.

GAEDA Commissioner Dr. C Ray Lewis has openly challenged the two new appointees and the motivations behind their appointments. Other prominent figures within the community have also spoken out against the perceived lack of transparency and potential conflicts of interest.
