Tulsi Gabbard Announces Resignation as Director of National Intelligence

Washington, DC (5/22/2026) – Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced Friday that she will resign effective June 30.

Gabbard shared the announcement in a resignation letter posted publicly to her X account.

In the letter, she revealed her husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.

As a result, Gabbard said she plans to step away from public service to support him during the difficult months ahead.

“At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side,” Gabbard wrote.

She described her husband as her “rock” throughout their eleven years of marriage, military deployments, and political campaigns.

Meanwhile, Gabbard reflected on her time leading the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

She said the office made significant progress in transparency and restoring integrity within the intelligence community.

However, she acknowledged more work remains ahead.

Gabbard also pledged to help ensure a smooth transition before leaving office at the end of June.

“I will remain forever grateful to you and to the American people for the profound honor of serving our nation as DNI,” she wrote.

At this time, no successor has been publicly announced.
