COLFAX, La. (6/14/2026) — Timika Hamilton-Price was sworn in Sunday as Colfax’s first African American female mayor-elect, marking a historic moment for the town as she prepares to take office on July 1, 2026.
The ceremony drew a packed crowd to the Grant Parish Civic Center. Residents joined elected officials, pastors, business leaders, educators, and community members from across Central Louisiana to witness the occasion. The event also included the swearing-in of the newly elected Colfax Town Council.
Hamilton-Price centered her remarks on transparency, accountability, unity, and economic growth. She said the day represented more than a personal achievement. Instead, she described it as a reflection of a community committed to progress and moving forward together.
“This represents possibility,” Hamilton-Price said. “It represents a community that believes in moving forward.”
She thanked her parents, family, supporters, and residents who helped make the moment possible. Hamilton-Price credited faith, perseverance, and life’s challenges for preparing her to serve.
“They Taught Me Perseverance”
“They taught me faith. They taught me perseverance,” she said. “When challenges come, you keep moving forward.”
Throughout her speech, Hamilton-Price emphasized that leadership begins with service. She said effective leadership requires listening, showing up, and working daily to improve the lives of residents.
As she prepares to assume office, Hamilton-Price made a clear commitment to the people of Colfax.
“My administration will operate with transparency, honesty, and accountability,” she said. “We’re going to have a true open-door policy.”
She pledged to improve communication between town government and residents. She also encouraged citizens to share concerns, ideas, and solutions.
“I want every resident to know your voice matters,” Hamilton-Price said.
Looking ahead, Hamilton-Price outlined priorities for her first 100 days in office. She said her administration will focus on strengthening communication, building partnerships, engaging families, and creating opportunities for growth.
Economic Development
Economic development remained a major focus of her address. Hamilton-Price said Colfax must pursue opportunities that support local businesses, attract investment, and create benefits for residents throughout the community.
“We will lay the foundation for opportunity, growth, and moving Colfax forward,” she said.
Hamilton-Price also stressed the importance of regional cooperation. She said she looks forward to working with neighboring mayors, council members, business leaders, churches, nonprofit organizations, schools, and residents throughout the region.
“Our vision does not stop at the town limits,” she said.
She urged residents to reject division and embrace collaboration. While differences of opinion will exist, she said progress depends on mutual respect and a shared commitment to the community.
“We may not always agree, but we can always work together for the good of Colfax,” Hamilton-Price said.
Hamilton-Price also recognized the incoming council members who will serve alongside her and thanked them for their willingness to lead. She said teamwork and partnership will be essential as Colfax begins a new chapter.
Move Forward with Hope
As the ceremony concluded, Hamilton-Price called on residents to move forward with hope, purpose, and unity.
“Together, we’re going to write the next chapter of Colfax history,” she said. “Together, we will create new opportunities. Together, we will build a stronger future for the generations to follow.”
The strong turnout reflected both the significance of the moment and the optimism surrounding Colfax’s future. Although Hamilton-Price will officially take office on July 1, 2026, she used Sunday’s ceremony to present a vision built on transparency, accountability, economic growth, and community partnership.
For many in attendance, the day marked the beginning of a new chapter in the Town of Colfax.
